In addition to research, teaching is integral to my profile; with courses I developed, such as “Beyond the Surface: Exploring Diversity, Power and Inclusion,” “Anthropology of the Netherlands, including the Caribbean,” and the course I co-developed with Alana Helberg-Proctor “Decolonizing Praxis: Racialised and Gendered Bodies”, I introduce students to debates on diversity and the lasting impacts of colonialism on sovereignty, race, citizenship, gender, sexuality and political ecologies.[
Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher and researcher, I aim to help students reach their full potential. I believe in creating a safe and welcoming space where students feel comfortable in every way, physically, emotionally, and socially. In this environment, students can openly share their thoughts, challenge one another, and collectively grow wiser.
I recognize that every student is unique. They thrive in a stimulating environment where the content and the way it’s taught make them think. To achieve this, I employ various learning strategies tailored to what students share and what works best for them. I also use interactive tools to make the learning more engaging. By adapting my teaching materials to the group’s knowledge and skills, I make the learning experience more relevant and enjoyable for everyone.
I value feedback from students to improve and adjust my teaching methods. This way, the teaching process becomes a shared journey that benefits the students and me. Through this approach, I aim to spark a love for learning, help students think critically, and prepare them to face the world with well-informed views. MO
